Solidago spp.

Goldenrod flowering herb prepared as herbal tea

In Plain English

Goldenrod's yellow flowering tops and leafy stems are a classic European urinary-tea herb. Herbalists choose it as a diuretic, meaning an herb traditionally used to encourage urine flow. The aerial herb is steeped alone or with other urinary botanicals.

Traditional Uses & Why Herbalists Value It

European herbalists prepare goldenrod's flowering aerial parts as an infusion for urinary-flow routines. It is commonly combined with other urinary herbs, making the flowering tops and leaves useful together. European monographs focus on Solidago virgaurea; North American goldenrods have separate local traditions.

What Modern Research Has Found

European reviewers document traditional urinary use of Solidago virgaurea herb. Research has characterized flavonoids and saponins and explored anti-inflammatory and urinary effects in experimental models. Strong clinical trials of the herb alone remain limited.

Plant Part & Preparation

The traditionally collected material is the flowering aerial herb, including yellow blooms and leafy upper stems. 'Goldenrod herb' and 'flowering tops' can share this explanation.
