Corn silk

Traditional Uses & Why Herbalists Value It

North American and other folk traditions prepare corn silk as a water-based tea for urinary comfort and fluid flow. Herbalists often pair it with stronger aromatic urinary herbs because of its milder character. The soft threads may be used fresh or dried.

What Modern Research Has Found

Corn-silk research has identified flavonoids and other plant compounds and explored antioxidant and urinary effects, mainly in laboratory and animal models. Human studies of ordinary corn-silk tea remain limited.

Plant Part, Preparation & Natural Constituents

Silk is generally steeped as a tea or made into extracts. Its identity is the style and stigma of Zea mays.

Corn silk in Formulae

SpeedyVite pairs corn silk with juniper, uva ursi, marshmallow root and other herbs in kidney-focused products. Its traditional reputation is gentler and more soothing than the aromatic juniper role. It also appears in other blends, but its urinary tea context is the clearest explanation for the kidney formulae.
