5 Ways to Detox Your Body Naturally
Life can be tough! Never mind the fact you physically cannot be a pro at everything, you're also constantly being bombarded by some form of toxicity. Most of our water has high levels of chlorine, fluoride, and other goodies (even if you drink filtered/ reverse osmosis, chances are you take unfiltered showers). Constant mental stimulation through lights and screens. Leftover pesticides on produce and... extras in meats. Constantly rising stress levels in work and interpersonal life. We have loads of targeted products to help keep your body functioning well, but here are a few free tips to help prevent some of the war your body has to fight.
Drink Water.
Drinking water helps keep your body hydrated, which is essential for good health. You should drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Some naturopaths suggest as many ounces as half of your body weight (so if you weigh 200 lbs, drink 100 ounces). To kick it up another notch, try adding lemon juice, salt and honey to your water. The combo is like a natural hydration drink- and tastes way better than gator/power/other aids :).
Eat Healthy Foods.
Eating healthy foods will help you feel better and live longer. There is alot that can be said about a generic statement like that.
First, buy foods that are minimally altered/processed. That can get expensive (organic beef is often double the cost of its non organic counterparts), but do what you can! A quick search will show the most pesticide covered/ absorbed foods which you should focus on first. Most of those are produce where you eat the skin- berries, apples, tomatoes, etc.
Second, buying quality matters! "Happy cows produce more milk," is a principle that applies across most of life. Well cared for, well fed, well exercised or weathered plants and animals tend to bear better nutritional results. Again, these are good targets- do what you can afford and stick to.
An alternative to expensive non altered foods: grow your own! Some foods may be less practical for most of us (raising livestock, etc), but lettuce grows easily and fast! Just like that, $10 bucks got knocked off of your next grocery bill.
Exercise Regularly.
If you're looking to detoxify your body naturally, try exercising regularly. This helps burn calories, boost good hormones, and boosts metabolism. You should aim to exercise at least three times per week.
Another fun topic to read- just how much junk comes out of your body when you sweat! Exercise removes bad stuff (toxins) and introduces good stuff (hormones and digestion). Totally worth the minutes required.
If you find yourself stretched for time, look up HIIT workouts. 6-10 minutes of strenuous but controlled exercise can work wonders for your body.
Reduce Stress.
Another way to detoxify your body is by reducing stress. We cannot often escape the situations and relationships that cause stress. Although it may help to find ways to relax after experiencing a stressor, the better way to reduce stress is building a capacity to process stressful situations properly. Some say crisis comes when one's perception of a situation or event outweighs one's resources to properly handle the event. Get in a church, read books on handling stress, but do something to help reduce the stress before it even hits you.
Sleep Well.
This doesn't need to be overdefined as we all know we should aim for 8+ hours- but some extras that may be worth considering: reduce light, noise and other disturbances. I turn my phone to airplane mode at night to avoid the radio signal, light, and audio of a text, call, or app trying to bother my precious sleep.
