Not all herbal colon formulas are created equal. The herbs matter - a lot. Different plants work in completely different ways, and knowing what's actually in your formula helps you understand what to expect and why it works.*
Here's a breakdown of the key herbs we use across our colon support line and what each one brings to the formula.*

Cascara sagrada - Spanish for "sacred bark" - is one of the most well-known herbal laxative plants in the world. The dried bark contains compounds called anthraquinones, which stimulate the muscles of the colon wall and encourage natural bowel contractions. It's been used in traditional herbal medicine for centuries, and it remains one of the most effective herbs for supporting regularity.*
We use cascara sagrada in several of our colon cleaner formulas, including the Gentle Happy Colon Caps and Turkey Rhubarb Full Strength Caps.*
Turkey rhubarb root (Rheum palmatum) is one of the most potent cleansing herbs we work with. Like cascara sagrada, it contains anthraquinone compounds - but at a higher concentration, which is why formulas built around turkey rhubarb tend to produce stronger, more noticeable results.*
It has a long history in both Eastern and Western herbal traditions as a digestive and eliminative herb. Our Turkey Rhubarb Full Strength Caps are anchored by this herb - it's the reason they're our most popular colon cleaner.*
Senna is another anthraquinone-containing herb with a long history of use as a natural laxative. It works similarly to cascara sagrada - stimulating colon motility and supporting the natural elimination process. Senna tends to work relatively quickly, which makes it a good fit for formulas designed for regular use.*
We include senna in our Colon LifeBoost® Tea, which is why the tea produces gentle but reliable results even at everyday use levels.*
Oregon grape root is less talked about than the other herbs on this list, but it earns its place in colon formulas. It contains berberine, a compound with well-documented effects on digestive health. It supports bile production - which plays a role in fat digestion and waste elimination - and has traditionally been used to support liver and digestive function together.*
It appears in both our Gentle Happy Colon Caps and Turkey Rhubarb Full Strength Caps.*
Ginger shows up in our Colon LifeBoost® Tea for good reason. It's one of the most studied digestive herbs in the world, known for supporting gastric motility - the movement of food and waste through the digestive tract. It also helps with nausea and digestive comfort, which makes it a smart addition to any cleansing formula.*
Lemongrass brings a gentler, supportive role to the tea formula. It has traditionally been used to support digestive ease and reduce bloating, and it gives the tea a pleasant, light flavor that makes daily use more enjoyable. It's not a heavy hitter on its own, but it rounds out the formula well.*
Pu-erh is a fermented tea with a long history in Chinese traditional medicine. It's included in our Colon LifeBoost® Tea because of its connection to digestive health and gut microbiome support. Fermented foods and teas have been used for centuries to support a healthy digestive environment - pu-erh is a well-regarded example of that tradition.*
How we choose our herbs:
Every herb in our formulas is either USDA Organic certified or wildcrafted - meaning harvested from wild, unsprayed plants rather than farmed. We don't use fillers or synthetic ingredients. What's on the label is what's in the capsule or tea bag.*
