5 Natural Flu Remedies That Work Fast
It's almost that time of year!
Turkey dinner, pumpkin spice latte's, hot chocolate, and ... the flu blues. But you don't need to let it beat you! If you didn't stock up ahead of time on herbal remedies, chances are these remedies around the home could help give you the boost you need to beat it!
Ginger Tea
Ginger has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years. It's also one of the oldest spices known to man. In fact, it was first cultivated in China more than 5,000 years ago. Today, ginger is widely used in cooking and medicine. It contains compounds called gingerols that have anti-inflammatory properties. Translation: it'll help your body get the job done :)
Honey
If you're looking for an easy remedy for cold symptoms, try honey and cinnamon. This combination works well because both ingredients contain antibacterial properties. You'll find these two ingredients in many recipes, so you can easily incorporate them into your diet. Try adding a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to warm milk before bedtime. Or mix some honey with hot water and drink it throughout the day.
Lemon Juice
Another simple remedy is lemon juice mixed with honey. It's a good idea to make sure you use fresh lemons, as preserved juices don't work as well. Add one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice to a glass of warm water. Stir until combined and then add a few drops of honey. Drink this mixture every hour or so throughout the day.
Hot Water with Peppermint Leaves
If you're feeling under the weather, try adding peppermint leaves to hot water. This is an old folk remedy that has been used for centuries to treat cold symptoms. To make this remedy at home, place two tablespoons of crushed peppermint leaves into a cup of boiling water. Let the mixture steep for five minutes before drinking.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Another simple remedy is apple cider vinegar (the base liquid of our signature Super Tonic). It's a well known fact that ACV helps with digestion and relieves stomach pain. Maybe slightly less known is how your stomach's acidity balance affects your immune system. Taking some of this daily can do wonders!
